Listening Party: August 8

Joy Division: Unknown Pleasures (Deluxe Edition): Most bands try to build for the explosion. They want to ride the big gust that will envelop everyone who casts an ear their way. Yet, when I listen to this record, I don't hear the sound of the bomb, but the moments after the bomb goes off. Where the world stops, slows down and the moment becomes all there is. Ian Curtis and his Jim Morrison-esque vocals play puppet master to the trance state getting built up around him by the band & its amazing rhythm section. This cd wasn't for an audience, it was for them, but luckily its around for us, whenever we want to delve down into that feeling of biting off more than you can chew. Check out: "Day Of The Lords," "She's Lost Control," and "Wilderness."
