Fan Video: Ween's Buenos Tardes Amigo

I love it when he kills his "brother."

NIN Slip Album Downloads & Google Earth

Nine Inch Nails released their new album, The Slip, weeks ago for free as a gift to the fans. Topspin.com helped by housing the album on their server. Someone was thinking and decided to plot the locations of the fans who downloaded this sucker on Google Earth.

Final assessment: apparently, the east coast LOVES some aggro industrial rawk.

Pablo Picasso Was Never Called An Asshole

Pablo Picasso by the Modern Lovers

Alternative Version of Viva La Vida Video

I think I might actually like this one better. It reminds me a Monty Python skit for some reason.

Listening Party: August 4

Minutemen: Double Nickels On The Dime- Always heard this cd was a good listen. Its on the Rolling Stone Top 500 of all time, Mike Watt is legendary and gets name checked as such over and over again, "Corona" is the Jackass theme song, etc. But, the first few songs didn't really grab me. I wasn't rolling my eyes or scoffing but I certainly had to drum up the desire to stick it out. But I thought, it was a double cd...there was bound to be something. It kept chugging along and slowly but surely my head started nodding more, I started laughing at some of the lyrics and then all of a sudden I'm listening to a song called "Jesus and Tequila" and I realize I'm in good hands.

Del Tha Funkee Homosapien: No Need For Alarm- I've always loved Del's voice and his style but sadly, didn't really get into him until I heard him on "Clint Eastwood." This cd is solid and has everything one could love about Del on it: from his lyrical prowess (I have to commend him for being an underground rapper that doesn't sound like he's sponsored by a rhyming dictionary) to his talent at riding a beat, to his vocal inflections...this cd has it all. Check out: "Catch a Bad One" (for that tension filled string beat), "Wrong Place" and "Miles To Go."

Tom Waits: The Heart Of Saturday Night- I don't know if its particularly wise to listen to 3am music in the afternoon...unless you crave that mood. I don't stay up as late as I used to (though I'm not sure why seeing as I was born strung up in night strings) so maybe I just need to connect with it sometime during the day, even if its at odd hours...What I think I'm getting at is that I need the mood and that certain stillness that comes with being by yourself, in a chair, or on the street, or laying down looking up, that cries out for music like this. And being that there are different shades of the man they call Waits, sometimes I think the one who speaks to me the best, is the late night piano player, probably alone at the bar, playing by candle light. I get it and I'm always a little surprised when someone finds a way to put music to it.

What Would You Call Something Like This?

I need something to carry a bunch of knick knacks and what nots around and want to get something that isn't a murse and isn't a messenger bag. This looks like something straight out of Indiana Jones ("throw me the idol, I throw you the whip"). I want to get something that either has this look or preferably is out a dig site from the 40's/seeped in some history. But first...I need to figure out what its called. Suggestions?

Back To The Future II Hoverboard Is On The Open Market

I think the world at large has been waiting for this day for quite some time.

There's Some Kid In A Basement That Sweats This Hard

Its amazing to me some of the stuff that gets made in this world. There was somebody that sat down, had some midnight showing of A Nightmare On Elm Street and thought to themselves, you know what I can add into the world...A Freddy Krueger Hand Belt Buckle. Isn't that exactly what the masses have been clamoring for? I would love to see the guy who buys this and attempts to peacock as they hit on some girl at their local bar. You're in there, buddy.

They Will Be Mine, Oh Yes, They Will Be Mine

Nothing like clothing/shoes/whatever to make you realize how broke you are.

Tacky? Sweet?

Hyden Yoo Shirt. Designer that appears to be NY based. Name reminds me that I need to get my ass to Toyko, pronto, though.

Cookie Monster Handler Biography Title: A Life Spent Under A Desk

I'm not quite sure I'm ever going to grow up to a point where Cookie Monster doesn't just make me smile.

Something Familiar About This Video

Last night at Blue King Brown, someone was telling me to check out Chromeo and so I did. Watched a video and all I could see was a striking similarity between a new group and an old classic.

Chromeo-Momma's Boy

A-ha-Take On Me

In Bruges: Hilarious

Do you like comedy? Crabby Irish hitmen? Karate chops to a dwarf's neck? Ralph Fiennes? (It's ok I don't liike Ralph Fiennes either). You will like this movie, completely hidden gem of a film, go see it.

Public Enemy Is Amazing/Why Isn't Rap Like This Anymore?

Its sad to watch a genre get watered down over the years, but you know what, when something gets too diluted, people respond and flip it. I'm not saying that, rap or hip-hop is without genius or vision, it just seems like I have to root around a lot harder to find it than I used to. This song blows me away though, so I thought I share it.

Take That Justin: Cry Me A River

On the youtube sidebar, the original poster said that somebody just called out "Cry Me A River" and Glen just launched into it.

Music That Gives Me The Chills 1: Glen Hansard (of the Frames): Say It To Me Now

This man sings from the hollows of his soul and lets you have a piece if you come around. Can you really ask for anything more? A gift.

Foot Fist Way Trailer

You know that feeling when you first hear about something and before that day it never seemed to come into your life? But, the minute you see it or hear about it, you can't escape it? That's this movie for me. I just keep reading about how all these comics treat it like a fucking prize to be passed around and what I want to know is why can't some distributor pass it this way? Portland will go, Sir...Ma'am...Whoever. I want to see this.

Carry On Boots

These are sick. The closures are made from items usually used for luggage and you can't deny a sweet pair of boots. Now if I can only get the "fuck you" money to be ok with shelling out the prices put to these suckers.

Listening Party: August 3

This is what I've been beaming into my ears today.

Hold Steady: Stay Positive. Great album, Craig Finn is just Mr. King Lyric right now, even though its in such a ADHD mouth vomit kind of way. Same topics, same structure, still love it.

Cut Copy: In Ghost Colours: I love this cd. I love music that makes me see images or where upon hearing it I immediate starting making up a world for it in my mind. This is a cd that lets you look & create.

Guess What Soul Kids...Jamie Lidell Is On The Way

Yeah, that English bloke in the picture, looking like he got caught in the middle of a robot routine, is coming to the Wonder Ballroom, PDX, Oct. 1, to bring a little light into the streets of Portland.  Caught him at Sasquatch this spring and watched as he transformed a pissed off crowd (technical difficulties pushed the set time back) into disciples within 2 mins of performing with a series of 60's throwback soul moves.  Its worth your time.

If you don't know the output, here's the opening song off his newest record. You may call it "Another Day."

Band As Painting

Have to be honest, Chris Martin's flailing limbs are the key distraction here. The man's stage presence seems to have evaporated and replaced by some awkward hands reaching out for an audience. Just a little further and you just...might...get them. Great work, Chris!

The real hero here is Hype Williams who flawlessly places the band into the Viva La Vida album cover complete with paint cracks on members faces and swirling paint strokes. I'm a sucker for most things surreal so this is pretty cool without being all "When Dreams May Comeish."
